Dr Bob Cannon OAM and Dr Jean Cannon first met while studying Dentistry at the University of Melbourne. They both obtained their Master’s degrees. Jean was the first woman in Australia to achieve her Master’s by research and the third woman to be awarded her Master’s degree in Dentistry. Jean then went on and trained as an Orthodontist.
Bob won a scholarship to study for his Doctorate in Dentistry in Canada and became a world authority in crown and bridgework. He was very innovative in the way he practised dentistry and in 1991 was awarded an OAM for his services to dentistry. Bob and Jean raised three children, Jill, Stuart and Andrew, and believed it was very important to give back to their community. They instilled this in their children.
In 2011, their daughter Jill was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and through Bob and Jill’s estate, developed a travel grant award in their honour. The Cannon family continue to support important research into blood cancer.
