Include us in your Will

Consider leaving behind a legacy of hope. A gift to the Snowdome Foundation in your Will could make a lasting contribution in the search to find a cure for blood cancers by providing ongoing funding for Australian researchers to advance new treatments, facilitating clinical trials of new drugs and therapies and ultimately help ‘make hope real’ for Australians with blood cancers.

Types of gifts in Will

Leaving a gift in your Will can be done in several ways.

Your gift could take the form of:

  • A residual gift
  • A specific amount of money
  • Specific items or assets of value
  • A contingent bequest

If you are unsure about the process, we recommend you speak with your solicitor, a trustee company or the Public Trustee.

A residual gift

A residual gift is the best type of gift because it maintains the relative value of your gift and automatically adjusts to changes in the value of your estate. This ensures your loved ones are cared for and only the balance or a portion of the balance goes to the Snowdome Foundation.

Specific amount of money

This type of gift is sometimes called a pecuniary bequest. A pecuniary bequest allows you to nominate a specific amount of money that you would like to donate to the Snowdome Foundation.

Specific items or assets of value

Anything of value, such as property, shares, a life insurance policy, jewellery or works of art, may be specifically named in your Will and given directly to the Snowdome Foundation.

Contingency bequest

This is whereby you establish a trust in your Will to allow a spouse or other named beneficiaries
(usually family members) to use your property and to receive all the income derived from your estate
during their lifetime. When they die, the capital and interest will be passed on to the Snowdome
Foundation (as contingency beneficiary).

Indicating how your gift should be invested

Most people indicate in their Will that the Snowdome Foundation should distribute the funds towards:

  • accelerating blood cancer research
  • priority needs for the Snowdome Foundation
  • Snowdome Foundation Endowment.

We recommend that you seek the advice of an independent solicitor or a qualified legal advisor before making or revising your Will. You should also seek qualified advice before choosing executors to administer your estate.

Suggested wording for your Will

To ensure your intentions are correctly followed, it is important to word your Will correctly. The suggested wordings for each type of gift are set out below.

Accelerating blood cancer research

A gift to the Snowdome Foundation will help support innovative research to accelerate new treatments for Australian blood cancer patients. “I give [all of my residual estate / ___ percent of my residual estate / the sum of $ ________ (choose one alternative)] to Snowdome Foundation Limited, Suite 32, 209 Toorak Road, South Yarra, Victoria, 3141, to be used for the purposes of Australian blood cancer research.

Priority needs

A gift to the Snowdome Foundation will help support high priority needs of the foundation, such as infrastructure or administrative costs, as deemed by the Snowdome Board. “I give [all of my residual estate / ___ percent of my residual estate / the sum of $ ______ (choose one alternative)] to Snowdome Foundation Limited, Suite 32, 209 Toorak Road, South Yarra, , Victoria, 3141, to be used for any high priority needs of, or connected with, the Snowdome Foundation and I further declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive, or Directors of the Snowdome Foundation Limited at the Snowdome Foundation is sufficient release for the executors of the Estate without seeing to the final distribution of the funds.”

Snowdome Foundation Endowment Fund

The Snowdome Foundation Endowment Fund investment generates a perpetual stream of income to help accelerate next generation blood cancer research projects, and to meet the Snowdome Foundation’s other highest priority needs.

“I give [all of my residual estate / ___ percent of my residual estate / the sum of $ ______ (choose one alternative)] as an endowment to Snowdome Foundation Limited at the Snowdome Foundation, Suite 32, 209 Toorak Road, South Yarra, Victoria, 3141, to be held upon trust and I direct the Trustee of the Foundation, Snowdome Foundation Limited, to make income distributions for the purposes of funding blood cancer research activities in Australia and I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive, or Directors of the Snowdome Foundation Limited is sufficient release for the executors of the Estate without seeing to the final distribution of the funds.”
