$400,000 raised from 2015 ‘Great Shake-Up’

Our 2015 virtual ‘Great Shake-Up‘ event (the one that you don’t have to leave the office for) has raised $400,000 to assist Snowdome’s fight against blood cancers in Australia. There are not too many events that raise this level of support in one hour!

At lunch-time on October 8, a group of generous corporations joined together online to watch Channel 7’s Hamish McLachlan host an hour-long televised program about blood cancers that was filmed live at the AFL’s Docklands studios. The program featured heartfelt stories from blood cancer victims and their families, progress updates from medical researchers and haematologists and a variety of reasons why donations to Snowdome’s cause will help to ‘make hope real’ for Australians living with blood cancers.

The feedback we receive from our audience of viewers is always positive and we thank this viewer for their comment – “Great job, keep up the good work! If you are prepared to continue to think out of the square for fundraising you will always keep people interested to see what’s next and what you’re up to as an organisation.”

We would like to thank all participants and donors who have helped raise this wonderful figure. We would especially like to thank Brookfield Multiplex whose boardroom participants teamed together to purchase 10 out of the 14 auction items on offer (contributing $36,800 to the overall total). We are thrilled to announce that a $50,000 grant has already been expedited to fund a research Fellow to assist Associate Professor Mark Dawson continue his blood cancer research at Peter Mac. Over the coming months, Snowdome will be granting the remainder of the raised funds to help fast-track clinical trials of new drugs, progress personalised medicine and fund other blood cancer related research projects.

To echo the sentiments of Tessa James, Lyndey Milan, the Riewoldt family and all who appeared in our program, it is vitally important to increase awareness of blood cancers and the paramount need for continual research. Doing this is just as important as raising funds in the fight against these indiscriminatory diseases. We would love you to watch and share the highlights package or the full program to help us increase awareness. Click HERE to go to our YouTube channel to view.

A huge amount of work goes into the planning and execution of our virtual event and the Snowdome Board is delighted to announce the ‘Great Shake-Up’ will continue in early 2017.  Over the next twelve months we will be busy planning another truly unique event that will be refreshed and, most importantly, continue to ‘shake things up’.

To our Event Partners, Ambassadors, Fundraising Committee and ALL who participated, shared their story, donated funds, bought or donated the wonderful array of auction items and/or gave their time to watch, organise, host, produce, create and imagine the ‘Great Shake-Up’ in 2015, we say THANK YOU!
